PHOTO CONTEST KICKS OFF "LOOK AT LOCAL HISTORY" MONTH

Have an old picture of a building? Do you like to take photos of  interesting architectural subjects?  If you do, then please join us by entering your pictures in the HPC's Photo Contest! 

Theme:                                   Documenting historic or vintage architecture in McHenry County

Who Can Submit Photos?    This contest is open to McHenry County residents, ages 18 and older. There are no entry fees.

 

 Submission Guidelines: 

1. Photo should show:

• The entire building
• A structure on the property
• An aspect of the building with historical or vintage interest

 2. Photo can be black and white or full color. Any photo editing should be limited and restricted to lighting or color correction e.g. no decorative filters added.

 

3. Size of photograph should be no bigger than 8” x 10”. You must securely attach the following information to the back of your submission:

• Full name
• Address of property
• Phone number and/or email address
• Brief description (not more than 50 words) of the photo content

 4. You may also submit your entry online by sending a jpeg file of not more than 4MB to smfoley@co.mchenry.il.us. The subject line should read “MCHPC Photo Contest.” Include a brief description (not more than 50 words) of the photo content. If you are a finalist, you will be asked to provide a hard copy of your photograph submitted as in number 4 above.

 

5. Entries must be received by April 25, 2012.

 

Judging and Prizes 

Judging will be done by the Commissioners of the McHenry County Historic Preservation Commission and their decision will be final. Finalists will be displayed at the McHenry County Courthouse Annex during May 2012, National Historic Preservation Month.

 

Entries will be judged on content, composition and overall appeal.

Prizes will be awarded as follows:

First prize: $75

Second prize: $50

Third prize: $25

 

By submitting your photograph, you hereby agree to grant the McHenry County Historic Preservation Commission a permanent non-exclusive license to reproduce and publish the photograph(s) in any medium and any quantities. You certify that a) this photo is your own work, and b) you own the property or have permission and a signed release to submit your photo of the property from the owner of the property. Any and all releases are the responsibility of the photographer. You also certify that you have read and agreed to all rules and conditions of this contest. Questions?
